Welcome...to Parsley Hay Ceilidh Band

"Wonderful music, wonderful entertainment, and just a great night...hugely enjoyable, fresh and individual every time"

(L-R) Mike Steve Ken

WHO WE ARE.

Parsley Hay are a traditional ceilidh / twmpath folk dance band, whose style can be best described as “Folk-Funk”. Playing electric violin, acoustic electric guitar and drum kit, Ken, Mike, and Steve or Derek will talk and walk you through the dances, before encouraging you to try dancing with the music.

WHAT WE DO.

The music we use is drawn from all over the British Isles, and also from America and Europe, but we like to think we get the “Welsh stuff” right! Although we can play for the experienced folk dancer, most of the time we play for the complete beginner. We hope to guide you gently through the intricacies - and oddities - of traditional folk dancing. Whatever the event, you'll be assured of a fun time. If you're not sure what it's all about, visit our "all about us" page.

WHERE WE DO IT.

Most of our gigs are for weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries, but we also play for PTA’s, social clubs and organisations. Though we’re based in South East Wales (Pontypool-Newport), we have played in (amongst others)  Birmingham, Chippenham, Malmesbury, Broadstairs, Yeovil, Widnes, and - of course - throughout Wales.

BARRY BUTLER

(1936-2005)

Barry Butler was our leading light, inspiration and founding member. Although he passed away in July 2005, he is sorely missed. They say that a gentleman is someone who knows how to play the accordion - but doesn’t.

Barry broke that mould, and he had a great influence on our band, and folk music and dance in Wales.

Barry - Thank you!
